The Aces of Eights combines the talents of Nadia King, Otto Otto Volquardsen, Tabby Casto and Andrea Martinelli and mixes it with neon lights, bright lights and a shit load of sassiness.

We got the lovely Tabby Casto to tell us more about the shoot: The Aces of Eights shoot came about when fellow photographer friend  Nadia King contacted me with an idea for an AW13  inspired shoot. I’ve worked with Nadia a few times and we get on very well. I love her use of pop colour and had been wanting to do something a little more grunge inspired too.

Nadia said “I wanted to shoot in a bar like this for a while but it never seemed like the right time. After seeing the AW13 catwalk shows, specifically Versace, Chanel and Isabel Marant I knew it was the perfect moment. The bar perfectly complimented the season’s trends! While planning the shoot I drew inspiration from many places including films such as The Craft & Jennifer’s Body.”

After sending me the mood board and a general idea of what she wanted I gathered some makeup ideas taking inspiration from bands like Garage & other early 90s faves. I wanted to create a dirty pretty look. I  got stylist Otto Volquardsen on board as well – his unique and edgy work would compliment the theme perfectly.  Otto was keen to use Vivienne Westwood pieces mixed with his signature love of  latex from House of Harlett. Mixing these  slightly raunchier pieces like denim chaps and netting with high end desighner pieces such as Alexander Wang and vintage Preen gave us a more modern take on the 90s trend.

We also got hair stylist Andrea Martinelli on board who has so much talent using Fudge products to create a Courtney Love meets Joan Jet-kind of look.

We met one cold morning last year at the bar in Islington. Nadia chose Ellie from Profile Models as she had the perfect good girl gone bad look. The bar was available for us to use for most of the day whilst the juke box played Nirvana, The Black Keys and the Rolling Stones. I’m quite pleased with how the shoot turned out and I’m in love with Ellie! She had the perfect pout and the most beautiful look for this shoot!
